Important Notice: FOD NO-FLY Flight Rules Changing
Do not fly south of the brow of the hill to our south (the Bowl)
Deschutes county is expanding the Redmond Transfer center to mimic the Bend center. This will limit how far we can fly to our South.
There is active construction in progress on the top of the hill.
See images below:
Orange: shows how we fly now. Notice that it is about 1000 feet from the south end of our runway to the active area of the current transfer center.
Bright Green: shows phase 1 of the remodel. They are moving the transfer center from south of Maple to North of Maple.
That reduces our safety zone to under 800 feet. I say under 800 because that is where they are working currently.
For reference, the existing maintenance road behind the north gate is only 130 feet from the brow of the hill. They are currently working 400 feet south from the brow of the hill.
Red: shows future plans to add a full blown recycling center which will be very close to the brow of the hill. I don't know the timeline on this phase
In the end we will not be able to fly south of the hill so we need to get used to landing inside the “bowl”.
